it depends how deep you want to dig into the executable and what kind of data you need from the exe.As with all exe files you can analyse them on a low level. But I assume you want to have a high-level tool to get back the director files that were used to create the exe, right? For the exe-file (the "projector" to use the appropriate director wording) there is no such tool known to me.
But very often the exe file is used together with files with extensions such as .dxr or .dir. Those are director files. DXR-Files are protected. But by importing them into director you can extract some of the cast memebers (graphics etc.) that are included. You need in-deep knowledge of lingo to do so.

All in all - it is not easy and your chances are low to completly reveal all code and media. Most director programmer use the protected files for distributing their programs. Those do not allow to reveal all data included.
First I tried to use xbytor's decompiler script to get the .atn file from the droplet, but unfortunately it always just ends up hanging. However, it works just fine on a droplet that I create myself from Ps.
So, I am asking if anyone has any experience with difficult-to-decompile droplets, or if there is a way to crash Photoshop in such a way that the batch droplet action stays in the Actions panel and I can actually save the .atn file from there.
Many SWF files will run immediately in a projector, but some have sitelocks, require an internet connection, and/or need external files. The latter types of Flash games need Flashpoint's technology. It is also possible to decompile SWFs to modify them or understand how they work.
Opensource flash SWF decompiler and editor. Extract resources, convert SWF to FLA, edit ActionScript, replace images, sounds, texts or fonts. Various output formats available. Works with Java on Windows, Linux or MacOS.

Nate -webdesign.com RE: how can i decompile a EXE file that has been made in photoshop? Kliot (Programmer)23 Jul 03 17:19Lebisol,I have to disagree with you on this one, when you hire a photographer the photographer is paid to take the pictures and he/she also gets to retain the rights to the negatives. The disk is not akin to the negatives it is a proof set. A photo studio hired by you to make prints from the negatives you own would not be a copyright violation. This is very different than hiring a contractor to build a house. I think it's an absurd practice but for some reason it's pretty standard with photographers. If that is what mcedmond agreed to in his contract with the photographer then getting the pictures off the disk would be a copyright infringement. With all that said I don't personally have a problem with him doing it and it sounds like a fun challenge so I hope he can post the file.Perrin RE: how can i decompile a EXE file that has been made in photoshop? mcedmond (MIS)(OP)23 Jul 03 17:22im affraid i dont have a web hosting,i could email but it would take forever RE: how can i decompile a EXE file that has been made in photoshop? lebisol (IS/IT--Management)23 Jul 03 18:15hi Kilot! well , different perspectives...I can't speak of what is on the CD...proof sheets are much different than images....but anyway this is arrangeg between the client and the company.the real problem here is that the poor guy is trying to print something or even tubm-see the image so he can make a decission :). I must say that the photo-place didn't quite cut it with thier "one-at-the-time" image presetation...she "should" have been give an option of seeing a product from ANY angle before buying it. this bothers me more than the copy right thing All the best! > need more info? :: don't click HERE :: RE: how can i decompile a EXE file that has been made in photoshop? You could try to open the exe using your browser (it will use the Flash Player plug-in). RE: how can i decompile a EXE file that has been made in photoshop? blueark (TechnicalUser)24 Jul 03 09:45A few suggestions:1 : The simple way - tell the photographer you can't use the CD and could they supply you with a contact sheet so you can compare them better. The images should be big enough to make a decision, but small enough so you can't really copy them without a serious loss of quality.2: EXE files for Windows usually contain resources. Do a search for Resource Editors and open your file in one of them. It's quite possible that the images are stored as image resources, and you might be able to save them through such a program.3: Follow lebisol's advice about exploring the CD to see if the images are lurking around somewhere, although if the EXE is 96mb, I would guess that they are embedded within that. RE: how can i decompile a EXE file that has been made in photoshop? SPYDERIX (TechnicalUser)24 Jul 03 10:49What I was going to do and why I was asking for the file was blueark's 2nd point. SPYDERIX (TechnicalUser)24 Jul 03 16:04You will have to play around with it, this isn't the PE Explorer Resource Editor Forum. You will want to find somewhere in the dropdowns that references gif, jpg, or maybe even icons.I have never used this prog before nor has blueark I think, he just found something that might work for you. You are going to have to check out all the menus and just search. When it comes to resource editors there is no easy route, nor is it very user friendly. Trial and error are your best friends, and if you can't save the images but you can find them, then that's when you will want to do print screen.Hopefully I'm not sounding rude or harsh but this is now starting to get a bit off-topic and might be flagged or deleted.Hope this helps! Nate -webdesign.com RE: how can i decompile a EXE file that has been made in photoshop? blueark (TechnicalUser)25 Jul 03 05:47You're right, I haven't tried that particular program. The resource editors I use are part of larger, more expensive packages, but in general they all work the same. You open your EXE file, and look for image resources. Check the documentation that came with it - there might be a few walkthroughs to get you started. RE: how can i decompile a EXE file that has been made in photoshop? duncdude (Programmer)10 Jan 04 07:07Get this straight - Photographers are protected like nothing else - they own the copyright to any pictures they take - they OWN the negatives unless they sign some document which specifically states they are relinquishing that right. Be VERY careful!Duncan RE: how can i decompile a EXE file that has been made in photoshop? duncdude (Programmer)10 Jan 04 07:10How about this - If I steal a camera from someone while walking down the street and take a picture with it I own the copyright to it. I find this outrageous but it is the case. Even though neither the camera or the film belong to me - and I stole the camera - the picture copyright is still mine. Just thought i'd share that with you to highlight this strange legal status.Duncan RE: how can i decompile a EXE file that has been made in photoshop? I got married in 1990, before the "digital" revolution and got my proofs as actual pics. We went to the photog's place and looked at a couple hundred pictures, then we selected the standard set, i dunno, like 30 or 40 for the "albums". But we loved the proofs so much, that i negotiated a seperate fee for a copy of each of the proofs too. the guy was very reasonable. i didn't get the rights, of course, that would've been much more $$$, but for an extra couple hundred bux i got a couple hundred "proofs" along with my album. Enough to fill several large photo albums with "out takes". i felt that was a pretty good deal all around. RE: how can i decompile a EXE file that has been made in photoshop?
